HOPE Support Group Meetings
HOPE’s monthly support group meeting is held on the first Tuesday evening of each month (October through May) at various locations in and around the Council Bluffs area. Our “Mom’s Night Out” format runs from 7:00pm-8:30pm and encourages participants to ask questions, share experiences, and encourage each other as we follow the call to educate our children at home. All homeschoolers and anyone investigating the option of home education are welcome and encouraged to attend HOPE support group meetings. HOPE will announce the meeting location in advance of each monthly meeting on the “Homeschoolers of Southwest Iowa” Facebook group. This is a closed Facebook group and you must submit a request to join.
We can all benefit by sharing our knowledge and experiences with regard to legislation specifically affecting homeschoolers and encourage you to do so. However, any feedback shared within the support group is not given as legal advice and does not take the place of legal counsel from an attorney.
Because HOPE is a non-denominational Christian group we must be sensitive to each other’s faith and practices. We realize that many of us have strong convictions about and feel called to take a personal stand on issues such as abortion, pornography, etc. However, HOPE support group meetings are not for the purpose of providing an open forum to express such convictions or organize responses to issues such as these.
HOPE Park Days
Homeschoolers of all ages are invited to explore local parks together every Tuesday (Spring, Summer, and Fall as weather permits). It’s a fantastic opportunity to watch your children catch up with old friends and make a few new ones! Invite a new homeschooler – the mom’s fellowship is wonderful, too!
Please watch the “Homeschoolers of Southwest Iowa” Facebook group for Park Days reminders, Park of the Week location, and cancellations due to the weather.
HOPE Used Curriculum Sale
HOPE hosts an annual Used Curriculum (and more!) Sale each year – typically in early June. This is traditionally a free, outdoor event for buyers & sellers of homeschool related curriculum, fiction & non-fiction books, movies, games, etc. No admission + no table fees = low prices for buyers & more items sold for sellers. A win-win situation! HOPE will announce the details of this event in advance on the “Homeschoolers of Southwest Iowa” Facebook group.
HOPE Homeschool Open House & Resource Night
HOPE hosts its annual Homeschool Open House & Resource Night every August. It is a “vendor fair” format full of academic and extracurricular opportunities in the Omaha/CB metro & Southwest Iowa areas for your family to explore! From homeschool band, orchestra, and choir groups to academic co-ops, athletic teams, teen leadership groups, community service opportunities, colleges, Bible study groups, instrumental music lessons, and so much more! The Homeschool Open House & Resource Night is a chance to visit with these folks face-to-face, ask questions, make contacts, and gather information to investigate further at home. HOPE will announce the details of this event in advance on the “Homeschoolers of Southwest Iowa” Facebook group.
HOPE Homeschool Potluck Picnic
HOPE hosts an annual Potluck Picnic each September to welcome and introduce new homeschoolers to our local homeschool community. It’s a great way for the whole family to catch up with old friends and meet new ones in like-minded Christian fellowship! HOPE will announce the details of this event in advance on the “Homeschoolers of Southwest Iowa” Facebook group.
From time to time HOPE will host guest speakers, music groups, or other ministries to inform and/or encourage the homeschool community in the call to educate their children at home. HOPE may request donations at events such as these to cover the cost of the facility being used. HOPE will announce any details in advance on the “Homeschoolers of Southwest Iowa” Facebook group.
